In the evening your first option is aerial displays and laser shows in the SkyDome. It blew me away how an indoor swimming pool by day was transformed into at acrobatics entertainment area by night. Starting on September 1, 2023, a masterclass in gin tasting will be offered on every P&O Iona cruise. Book a gin tasting session on board for a fun and exciting experience. The SkyDome is a hub of activity on Iona and the perfect place to head for poolside relaxation, as well as live entertainment throughout the day.
The Main Dining Rooms and Buffet Weren’t The Only Included Dining Venues
Anticipation for the ship had been building up over this time and there was definitely some level of anxiety about the changes that P&O were making compared to their traditional cruising history. I’ve just disembarked a week-long cruise on Iona and although I thought I knew P&O cruises pretty well before the cruise, this cruise showed me things I’d never have expected from P&O. For relaxed dining, this family favourite always gets the thumbs up. Easy does it for Caribbean and Southern American classics with a playful twist. From hanging kebabs and sizzling cook-your-own steaks to delectable chocolate fondues, you’ll want to dive right in. In stylish and sumptuous surroundings, Sindhu’s expert chefs will take you on a delicately spiced odyssey that celebrates the best of contemporary Indian cuisines.
Cabins Dining Entertainment Drinks
When P&O Cruises first announced that they would be launching a cruise ship called Iona, she was promised to be the ‘start of a new era in travel’. If you've energy left from exploring ashore, why not try a new sport –archery, maybe? What about some friendly family competition playing giant chess, table tennis or shuffleboard? Get cosy beneath the intimate low lighting of The Limelight Club and prepare yourself for a show-stopper of an evening at this ticketed event exclusively for adults. Feast your senses on entertainment provided by some of Britain’s best-loved performers andrelish in a three-course culinary experience that’ll have your taste-buds tingling. Designed to maximise views and let the outside in, the glass walls of the Grand Atrium and an array of wow-factor indoor and outdoor spaces afford the best panoramas of Norway’s dramatic landscapes.

From acrobatic antics to pop-up performances, or simply laying back with a drink in hand, the SkyDome is sure to please. No matter where you are on the ship, there's bound to be a deck bar nearby. With seven to choose from, all serving a selection of wines, beers, cocktails, soft drinks and frozen treats, there's no better way to rehydrate out on deck.

P&O Iona Cruise Photo Review – Ship, Food, Entertainment, and More
Whether you're looking for a casual meal as a family, a treat in one of the specialty restaurants or a quick bite to go, there's somewhere new to try around every corner. But in other areas, there's big change; open-seating dining, for example, and the requirement to book literally everything via the MyHoliday app. Iona offers Freedom dining exclusively in the Pearl, Coral, Aqua and Opal restaurants. Speciality dining experiences are also available in several other venues, plus there are snack bars, cafés and other options on board. Iona is one of the very few cruise ships that is designed with cold weather in mind. There is still plenty of seating outside, but even if that isn’t being used, there are inside alternatives for everybody.
We watched the safety drill videos on our TV and our room steward introduced herself to us. She explained that our room would only be cleaned once a day instead of the two times a day that P&O used to offer. Our cabin was cabin and it was right at the back of the ship.

P&O Cruises' biggest and most innovative ship ever built for the UK market is the first Excellence-Helios Class in the fleet. SkyDome is one of the cruise liner's signature attractions and the largest onboard entertainment hub. During the day, SkyDome serves resort-style leisure activities and offers entertainment and casual dining. The night entertainment includes on-roof media projections, laser shows, aerial acrobatics performances, DJ disco parties, theatrical productions, movies (on a large LED screen). With a choice of 30 venues, many of which open from early morning until late at night, guests enjoy the widest ever selection of spots to eat and drink onboard a ship built exclusively for the British cruise market. The new venues join P&O Cruises favorites, such as The Glass House, Epicurean, Sindhu and Brodie's among a long list of cafes, bars, self-service choices, and restaurants.
The Beach House
Iona's godmother is owner and chair of Hays Travel Group Dame Irene Hays. Dame Irene named Iona when the ship entered service in May 2021. Iona has a normal operating capacity of 5,200 guests and 1,800 crew.

Spend enough time in the central hub of the ship, the Atrium, and you’ll soon find yourself being serenaded by resident musicians, or awed by aerial acrobats. The SkyDome is also a fantastic place to spend an evening, transforming into a must-visit venue complete with live performances and DJ party nights. What's more, the live shows don't stop there, with Headliners Theatre offering dazzling entertainment in a sophisticated setting. Arvia and Iona are P&O UK's largest vessels ever constructed - with GT tonnage 180,000 tons and max passenger capacity 6600 (plus 1800 crew). They are also the biggest UK-based passenger ships (permanently homeported in Southampton England) and the UK cruise market's first LNG-powered newbuild (followed by Arvia). These liners have Wartsila LNG engines that provide electricity for the propulsion system both in ports and at sea.
PO Iona ship also has a 0,5-mi (800-m) long outdoor Promenade Deck (named "Lanai Deck") wrapping around the entire Deck 8. It is much wider than the industry's standard and lined up with open-air bars and alfresco dining venues. In the Promenade's forward section are positioned a total of 6x Infinity Whirpools with glass walls facing the ocean (3x portside and 3x starboard). For cruise liner's hotel facilities and amenities were contracted the companies Richmond International (London UK), The Four Seasons Moscow, Langham Hotel, and Sandy Lane Hotel (Barbados). Passenger cabins were designed by Partner Ship Design (Hamburg Germany).
There's also action-packed outdoor spaces including a climbing wall, football court and splash zone to keep them cool on a hot day. As Iona is a Freedom Dining ship, you can cast aside routine to dine in her main dining restaurants (Pearl, Coral, Aqua, and Opal Restaurants) at a time that suits you and sit wherever you choose. I had a Balcony Suite, which is far more spacious than any previous cruise with P&O Cruises. With a small working and sitting area, a big screen TV and plenty of wardrobe space it’s hard to know what more you need.
Two new aerial shows (Virtuosi, Spark) are scheduled for Iona's inaugural season 2021. The pools on board are unsupervised and children under the age of 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Whirlpools - The whirlpools on-board are not to be used by children aged 8 and under, and children aged 8-16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
Chef Forsberg designed the menu of "Taste 360" (street-food-style dining) and MDR's (dining room's) Norwegian-inspired dishes. On itineraries to Iberia (Portugal, Spain) and the Canaries, tapas dishes-based menus are specially created by Chef Pizarro for the restaurants "The Glass House" and "Taste 360". On Norwegian Fjords itineraries, the menus are upgraded by chefs Skjelde and Forsberg. Skjelde developed a special 6-course Norwegian food tasting menu for "The Epicurean" restaurant. The SkyDome is the thing that sets Iona apart from other cruise ships and although there is a swimming pool in the dome, the space was used for so much more than swimming.
